It seems another official from Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign is making plans to sing like a bird to Special Counsel Robert Mueller in connection with the investigation into whether or not there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

CNN reports,  according to sources close to the case, former Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates is in the last stage of finalizing a sweetheart plea agreement with Mueller’s office.

The sources say that Gates has been in contact with Mueller’s team for about a month negotiating terms for an agreement. It’s also being reported that he’s had what criminal lawyers describe as a “Queen for a Day” interview, an inquiry in which a defendant agrees to answer any and all questions from the prosecutor’s team. These questions can include the defendant’s involvement or observance of criminal activity. The best part about this type of interview is that it offers nearly full immunity from prosecution.

“Nobody (who’s charged) goes in to provide incriminating information to the government unless it’s part of plea negotiations,” said a criminal defense attorney who represents a witness in the case. In a Queen for a Day interview, a defendant can typically admit to crimes with little additional consequences, unless he or she lies.

Gates is facing 10 or more years in prison if convicted of his current eight charges, but sources speculate that the threat of new charges could also be a motivating factor for the former Trump adviser to cooperate.

While Trump and his supporters continue to attack and make light of Mueller’s investigation, it’s clear that the special counsel is letting actions speak louder than tweets. We could soon see a cascade of developments in this case ending in an indictment of a sitting U.S. president.

It will be interesting to see if the $130,000 “gift” Trump’s longtime lawyer Micheal A. Cohen admittedly paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels (who allegedly carried on a year-long affair with Trump) will become a part of Mueller’s investigation. Just imagine if Cohen turned rat?
